1XI Team
Term 1
The first half of this season has seen the development of a very new team for the 1s, and it has been exciting to explore the heights that this team can reach. The squad has given lots to the club this term, whether that be at training, matches, or even at social events. After a promotion in Saturday league at the end of last season, we have comfortably made our mark in the new league, currently sitting in 7th place out of 12 with aims of climbing the table further in term 2. BUCS has been a slightly different story, where we are in 6th place out of 6. However, just to show how far we have come, one of our last games before Christmas saw a draw to Nottingham Trent 2s, who are at the top of the table. This is only the beginning of what we are hoping to see and enjoy in term 2. Overall, the 1s have had a promising start to the season, and the bonding between players on and off the pitch is ever increasing and with that in mind, there is much potential to be excited for when returning from the Christmas holidays.
2XI Team
Term 1
The 2s have had an amazing first half of the season. Our level of hockey is at a high standard and this is reflected in our results. We are currently unbeaten in BUCS and have progressed through to the next round of the Conference Cup where we will play Birmingham 3s. In Saturday League, we are currently second in the table, having only lost to first place and look well placed to get promoted at the end of the season. These exceptional results are a testament to the teams hard work and dedication to training, matches and fitness, and I am extremely proud of and grateful for the entire squad. This success is also in part due to the range of socials that we have had ensuring that we have bonded as a team. I am excited for next term and look forward to hopefully placing high in both BUCs and Saturday League.
3XI Team
Term 1
The UWWHC 3’s have had an amazing start to the season so far! Starting off with Saturday league, we won the first game of the season and have kept up the momentum ever since. The team has not lost any Saturday matches, ending term 1 at the top of the league table, and hoping to continue this streak into term 2! The team has been a joy to play with, showcasing great teamwork, reflected in our play. Our coach, Matt, has provided the team with lots of support, teaching us some new skills and generally helping the team progress over the course of the term. In BUCS, our results have been a bit more varied, losing our first game against Harper Adams, but coming back strong to draw against them the second time, and then thrashing Aston 7-0! We ended the first half of the season with a 1-1 draw against BCU, and high hopes for BUCS, and our cup game, after Christmas.
The fresh have settled into the team really well, and the rest of the team has loved getting to know them! We’ve had some fun team socials that have helped the team bond, such as circle pres and a pizza night. The team will keep fitness up over Christmas with sweaty selfies, and can’t wait to be back and playing together in the new year!
4XI Team
The 4s have show great dedication this term by joining the Midlands Division 5 Saturday league for the first time! Playing in the same league as our Women’s 3s has been a great challenge for us as well as learning to play together with our new coach and freshers! We have had tough opponents over the weeks, and have lost most of our games except our solid win of 6-0 against Charnwood Forest at the start of term. Despite our frustrating league results, I want us to focus on our enthusiasm that we can be very proud of! I am very impressed by the commitment of everyone, especially our few freshers that are always very keen to improve and have shown great abilities playing games for the first time!
Looking forward to next term we have set ambitious goals together of at least 2 wins and 2 draws in Saturday League, and most importantly continue to show up for each other and have fun with more team socials!
Term 1
5XI Team
Term 1
The 5s have had a fun and exciting start to the term. After playing friendly matches alongside the men’s 5s against mixed hockey, the girls have got a feel for the pitch and have improved greatly on both their skills and technique. The aid of a fantastic coach has allowed quick and effective learning; with development being visible session by session. With more arranged matches soon to come, the team has chance to work on match play and eventually push up and join the social team. On the social side, the 5s have excellent attendance at circles and bar crawls, providing fun and entertainment for the rest of the club. I am immensely proud of my team and can’t wait for Term 2!!!!

Charities
Term 1
This year we have voted as a club to continue our longstanding relationship with our local charity LWS Night shelter! They work hard to provide safe shelter, food parcels and company for the homeless and vunerably-housed members of the Leamington Spa community. We are thrilled to be able to support this work and continue volunteering alongside their members. Our national charity this year is the Malala Fund UK, this charity works to break down the barriers preventing girls from accessing education, in order to champion gender equality and ensure every girl has access to free, safe and quality education. A powerful tool to assist in breaking the cycle of poverty. As an women's club, we have seen first hand how quality education can provide a platform for women and girls to thrive and we wish for everyone to be able to have these opportunities. Our support helps to create a future where evey girl has the opportunity to learn, lead and thrive.
Some wonderful charity events have taken place this term, with a special mention towards all our members that took part in our club-wide 'Can Drive' for LWS Night Shelter, where we donated a vast array of food items to be included in food parcels to be given out to those in need. All the donations were greatly appreciated, so a huge thanks to everyone brought an item!
A massive congratulations to our 24 girls who took part in the annual CMD 'Let's dance for sports relief' competition. Unfortunately we didn't win an award, however everyone who took part gave it their all and did us proud. Congrats for an awesome performance!
This year we took part in movember, in which many members of exec grew their own virtual moustache over the month to show our support for the 'grow a mo' campaign. In support of 'move for movember' we also took part in a skills swap with Warwick Calisthenics in order to raise awareness for men's mental health. Thank you to everyone who came along!
Finally we showed what we do best with our annual joint UWHC charity quiz where we had an incredible turnout. We challenged our members on their knowledge of Leamington Spa, general knowledge and the much loved 'chat round' that revealed a few sneaky secrets from our members! Everyone had a wonderful time whilst taking part in this fundraising event. Of which all of the proceeds went towards Movember.
A final massive thank you to everyone that has taken part and donated. It has been a great first term for charities, stay tuned for even more in 2025!!
