Our Teams

Men’s 1XI

“The 1’s are a great group who have made my time at Warwick thoroughly enjoyable. We are a competitive team hoping to remain in Midlands Prem next year on Saturdays and achieve promotion to BUCS Prem North, after missing out narrowly in the playoffs last season. We are a dedicated and friendly team who compete in the BUCS Midlands Tier 1. We also have weekly socials so there’s really something for everyone.” - Alessio Di Bon (1XI Captain)

Women’s 1XI

“The Women’s 1st team is a competitive hockey side currently competing in the BUCS Midlands Division 1, finishing mid table for the past two seasons. Our talented players come from a range of hockey backgrounds, with high levels of club, school and county experience. As a team we pride ourselves on our desire and drive to play the highest standard of hockey we can, while also continuing to enjoy playing among friends. This friendship between all members of the team is something which we continue off the pitch, whether that be a team PowerPoint night or circling as a club on a Wednesday.” - Eve Naylor, (1s Captain)

Men’s 2XI

“If you’re serious about your hockey and even more serious about socials, look no further than our 2nd XI. In the 2’s we enjoy a unique atmosphere, playing hockey at a high level whilst still emphasising the social side of the club. The team currently sits in BUCS Midlands Tier 2 and Midlands Hockey Division 4 East. We are well placed to secure strong results in both our leagues for the 2024/25 season. There’s no better way to experience uni than with arguably the most involved team in the club, with a high proportion of the executive committee currently occupied by existing or previous 2nd XI players, a testament to our devotion.” - Morgan Clarke (2XI Captain)

Women’s 2XI

“In the Women’s 2XI there is a strong balance between maintaining a high standard of Hockey whilst enjoying every minute on and off the pitch. Every player in the squad is valued and high commitment is expected. This not only ensures we have a high standard of play but also enhances our bond as a team which strengthens our play. We are in the BUCS midlands Tier 3 and Midlands Division 4 in Saturday League. We are looking to fight for a promotion next season, specifically in the Saturday League as we have been so close for the past couple of years! Alongside our training sessions we also have frequent socials, which makes the team play better on the pitch and we are also looking at having more socials this year with the Mens 2XI team in order to promote inter-club relations and help new members make more friends and feel more settled into University.” - Charlotte Heald, (2s Captain)

Men’s 3XI

“We form an inclusive yet tight knit group who are always looking to develop our skills as a squad and have the highest attendance at any social. Currently in Midlands division 6 and BUCS’s tier 3 we are looking to push beyond mid table. Playing on Wednesdays and Saturdays, we employ a slightly less intense but still competitive approach to hockey, with game-based training, innumerable socials and a kind-hearted atmosphere to boot.” - Oliver Holden (3XI Captain)

Women’s 3XI

“The 3rd XI team is an inclusive and friendly group. We’re a competitive team, currently in Division 5 East Central for Saturday league, and BUCS midlands tier 4. In the next season, it’s our aim to achieve top positions in the two leagues, particularly in the Saturday league. The players are all super welcoming! Our frequent team socials mean that the team is close on and off the pitch, and are helpful at making new players feel settled. Consistently looking to develop our skills, we have trainings twice a week and also a weekly fitness session. Both of these are always a bit of fun, while still being challenging.” - Ester Ball-Iversen (3s Captain)

Men’s 4XI

“The 4th XI is a fun loving, welcoming and relaxed team, with a number of players that joined without previous experience of hockey before university. The 4’s, affectionately nicknamed “The Value”, is the ideal team to join if you are wanting to develop your game without too much stress on performance. The 4’s also have plenty of competitive fixtures so if you want competition then you will not be left wanting. The 4’s are one of the closest knit squads in the UWMHC, with plenty of team socials on the cards for those that join, so if you are deciding whether to get involved or not, the answer is clear!” - Finn Sweetnam (4XI Captain)

Women’s 4XI

“The 4th XI team are the social team of UWWHC! We are not a BUCS team but we play in Saturday League. This year, we have been promoted to play in the Midlands Women’s Division 5 which is the same league as the 3s! Even if the intensity and expectations are less important than the competitive teams, we set our own standards to maintain a good fitness and attendance over the year. Being in this division will be a great challenge so we welcome players who are determined to improve and get some match play while enjoying the friendly, less pressured environment of the team!” - Erin Brajou (4s Captain)

Men’s 5XI

“The 5th XI, also known as the Devs, is a new team within the club designed for those with little to no hockey experience. Training is primarily casual, with a focus on enjoying and developing hockey skills, with little focus on performance. Despite this, the Devs maintain a strong presence at Wednesday socials, being the key avenue for wider integration into the club. For those looking for a more casual hockey experience, along with extremely lively socials, the Devs are the team to join.” - Aly Benamer (5XI Captain)

Women’s 5XI

“The 5th team is a beginner friendly team for those who have never played hockey before and want to learn to play. The 5s are taught how to play from how to hold the stick to learning the rules of the game and eventually evolve to play full matches. Throughout the year we will train alongside the 4s to develop our skills further and strive to move up to their team. Additionally we play friendly matches with other DEVS teams such as Mixed Hockey to get a feel for the pitch and improve in our gameplay. Off the pitches the 5s is a social team who attend circles and other socials throughout the year. The introduction of the 5s last year has expanded UWWHC’s membership numbers and allowed a range of people to give hockey a go while at Uni” - Harriet Nicholl (5s Captain)
