Socials and Events


What do we get up to?

Our social secretaries work tirelessly to provide all of our club members with fun activities to get involved with every single week! These activities include: organised Student Union club nights (POP!, Circling and SKOOLDAYZ), a variety of balls and formals year round and a multitude of sober socials.

Many of our socials are combined with the amazing Ladies section so you have plenty of opportunities to get to know everyone in the club. This really sets us apart from other university hockey clubs and other clubs within Warwick as we don’t limit our socials to team only socials.

YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE TO PLAY HOCKEY TO JOIN THE FUN!

Club nights

  • Throughout your time in the UWMHC, the boys will go out to the local clubs with a variety of different groups. These events are spread throughout the year and involve loads of different people so it’s really fun and a great way to meet people.

  • If you let us know that you are thinking of joining the hockey club this year we will put you in a group with plenty of the other boys and your fresher families (something to look out for this year). We’ll then organise some nights out and invite you along.

Sober socials

  • Sober socials are a staple of the UWMHC social scene and include team curries, film nights, Park runs, Squash tournaments, swim socials and so much more! We will never pressure anyone to drink so if it’s not your thing, you’ll still have a great time.

  • Sober socials happen all the time so as long as you are involved in the club or we know that you’re interested, you will be included.

Charity Quizes & events

  • We hold charity events regularly throughout the year, with at least one major event every term. Some personal favourites are the charity tournament and the Big Quiz, which are mixed with the Ladies club.

  • Charity events will, most often, require a small donation to be able to take part. The dates will be communicated via social media by our publicity and charities officers so you will have every opportunity to sign up.

Circling & POP

  • Circling & POP take place every Wednesday. Circling is a tradition that is part of every sports club at Warwick. It consists of a variety of secretive drinking games played before each POP event. Hockey circle is known as the wildest and most exciting circle at the SU, attracting a fair bit of attention. The circle will be led by our two social secretaries Alex and Toby so if you have any questions please do reach out to them. Make sure you have a white shirt, tie and dark chinos to save you a shopping trip!

  • All you need to do is go to the SU website and purchase a circling ticket (£6) before they sell out and let us know that you want to join. (Make sure you buy week 1 and week 10 as they will sell out in minutes). We’ll guide you through everything so just get ready to meet the boys and have a good time.

Barcrawls

  • During your time at the UWMHC you will have the opportunity to be involved with plethora of different bar crawls/ corner shop crawls with different clubs and societies. The bar crawls often have an associated game or set of challenges that set them apart from the rest.

  • Bar crawls are normally themed events so grab your costume and get stuck in. The social secretaries will make sure you have all of the details and will organise the whole night. All you have to do is get there!

Hockey, Sport &Christmas Formals

  • The Balls/formals are, in my opinion, the highlights of the year. Hockey ball and Sports ball are always sell out events so DON’T MISS OUT! With entertainment, food and drink all included, it’s guaranteed to be a great night!

  • Tickets will be sold by the club, or the Students Union (in the case of Sports Ball). These Tickets usually sell out VERY fast, so be fast to grab a place.
