The University of Warwick
Women’s Hockey Club
(UWWHC)
Who are we?
The University of Warwick Women’s Hockey Club (UWWHC) is a well-established and prominent club at the University with over 115 members and one of the largest intakes of new members this year across the university, with over 50% new members. This makes us one of the largest female sports clubs on campus.
We have five hockey teams, of which three are competitive. Our 1s, 2s and 3s compete in the national British Universities & Colleges Sports (BUCS) league, the Midlands Regional Hockey League and the Arden League. Our 4s are our social team and the 5s are a team for beginners.
The club has access to a water-based astroturf and a Sports and Wellness Hub, allowing UWWHC to access high-intensity performance sports training facilities. These tools have allowed us to train to a higher standard than before, which is reflected in our league results this year, in particular, our 1st Team winning their league and being promoted.
We encourage everyone of any ability to give our club a go, especially if you have never played before!

Why Join UWWHC?
Our club aims:
-
SUPPORT WOMEN IN SPORT
Lead the fight for women in sport in university and beyond, providing a foundation to develop skills, confidence and sportsmanship.
-
INCLUSIVITY
Led by our welfare officer Evie. This year, to be as inclusive as possible we are including pronouns in our member details, to support the non-binary members of our club, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
-
CHARITY
Hold charity events frequently throughout the year to raise funds to support local and national charities. Each academic year we vote on which charities to support, so we can raise money for varied causes.
-
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
As shown through our recent achievements with the Climate Reality Warwick group, winning their competition to be as sustainable as possible within sports for the fourth year in a row.
-
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Collaboration with the local and wider community with the aim of a supportive and well-connected environment. We do this through collaboration with other clubs across national Universities, and recently working with the Leamington Junior Volunteers (in the local area).

Message from the Club Captain
“Hello everyone, I’m Nika, the UWWHC Club Captain for 2024/25! I’m a third year Biomedical Science student and play for the 1s team. UWWHC has been a massive part of my University experience, and I couldn’t recommend joining enough! We are a very inclusive club with 5 different teams, welcoming all hockey abilities - so even if you have never played hockey, before we would still love for you to join us! I am more than happy to answer any hockey-related questions so feel free to send me a message! Hope to see as many of you as possible in September!”

The University of Warwick Women’s Hockey Club is LGBTQA+ inclusive and we make every effort to encourage all individuals to take part in our sport irrespective of how they identify.
Let's kick LGBTQA+ phobia out of sport!
